Frequently Asked Questions

What is TaskGator?

TaskGator is a Chrome extension that consolidates all your Canvas LMS assignments, grades, due dates, and instructor feedback into a single side panel view, with an optional AI assistant (TaskGator Pro) that answers questions grounded in your actual course content.

Is TaskGator free?

The core assignment manager is free: the consolidated side panel, progress tracking, and priority sorting. AI features are part of TaskGator Pro at $4.99/month or $15.99 per semester. Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. Canceling keeps Pro active through the end of your current term.

How do I get TaskGator?

Install TaskGator for free from the Chrome Web Store. It works with any school that uses Canvas LMS with no setup required from your university. Just install, log into Canvas, and TaskGator automatically syncs your courses.

Does my school need to approve TaskGator?

No. TaskGator uses your browser's existing Canvas session, the same login you already use to access Canvas. It doesn't require API keys, OAuth tokens, or any setup from your school's IT department.

Which schools does TaskGator work with?

TaskGator works with any institution that uses Canvas LMS (*.instructure.com). Whether your school is university.instructure.com or college.instructure.com, TaskGator detects it automatically.

How does the AI work?

TaskGator uses two types of AI. On-device AI (Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano) parses assignment requirements locally, so no data leaves your device. The AI Assistant, which lets you ask questions about your courses, uses cloud AI processing via OpenAI's API through our secure backend. Cloud processing is ephemeral and OpenAI does not use your data for model training. When TaskGator doesn't have the answer in your course content, it says so. It won't guess.

Is my Canvas data secure?

Yes. TaskGator never sees your Canvas password. It uses your browser's existing session cookies. Course data cached locally is AES-256 encrypted. Data stored in our backend is limited to professor-created instructional content (syllabi, assignment descriptions), not your personal submissions or grades. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
