How does the AI-powered discussion analysis work?

TaskGator uses advanced AI to analyze Canvas discussion requirements, automatically parsing instructions to identify required posts, replies, and other participation criteria. Privacy Note: No student-provided data is ever stored by our AI system. Only the instructor-provided assignment instructions are analyzed and cached to help you understand requirements. Your personal information and responses remain completely private.

Is my Canvas data secure?

Absolutely. TaskGator uses industry-standard encryption to protect your Canvas credentials and data. Your login information is stored securely on your device and never shared with third parties.

Why does TaskGator currently only work with Canvas?

We understand you might use other learning management systems (LMS) like Blackboard, Moodle, Brightspace, or Google Classroom. However, Canvas has a unique feature that allows you, the student, to generate your own secure API key (a kind of digital key) directly from your Canvas account settings. This key gives TaskGator permission to securely access your assignments and course information, without needing any special approval or setup from your school's administrators. This "self-service" access is crucial for TaskGator to work seamlessly and securely for individual students like you.

What about other LMS platforms like Blackboard, Moodle, Brightspace, or Google Classroom?

Unfortunately, most other major LMS platforms do not offer a way for individual students to generate their own API keys for third-party apps like TaskGator. For TaskGator to access your data on these systems, it would typically require:

• Administrator approval and setup at your school: Your school's IT department would need to register our app and grant it specific permissions for their specific institution. This is a complex process for each individual university or college.
• Workarounds like "screen scraping": This involves our app trying to "read" the website like a human, which is technically fragile (breaks easily when the website changes), often violates the LMS's terms of service, and can pose security risks. The TaskGator team wants to avoid these methods to ensure your data is secure and your experience is reliable.

Because our goal is to provide a simple, secure, and administrator-free way for students to aggregate their assignments, Canvas's unique API key feature makes it the ideal starting point for TaskGator.

Are there any plans to support other LMS platforms in the future?

The TaskGator team would absolutely love to integrate with other LMS platforms! However, the current limitations are primarily due to how other LMS providers control API access, which generally requires individual institutional administrator involvement.

We are eager to collaborate with the owners and developers of other LMS systems (like Blackboard, D2L Brightspace, Moodle, Schoology, Google Classroom, etc.) to explore ways to integrate TaskGator functionality directly into their platforms. If and when other LMS platforms introduce student self-service API access similar to Canvas, or if new, secure, and scalable integration methods become available that don't require individual institutional admin setup, we would definitely consider adding support.
